Project Settings
Folders
The Folders page shows setting information for each of the two folders, and specifically allows you to see which sub-folders have been excluded by the Auto- Filter.
Locations
The Locations page. allows you to set the project name and location of where to store the project and log files.
It also allows you to set some settings pertaining to the project such as auto-save the log file and delete empty folders.
The "delete empty folders" option, means that only if all files have been deleted from a specific folder, will the folder be deleted. If no files have been deleted from a folder then it will not be deleted even if it is empty.
Compare Settings
If the "perform binary comparison" option is checked, then files will be considered equal only if they are identical at the binary level, even if they have different timestamps.
The Same and Different source settings allow you to set the source of files common to both folders. This will determine the source to use when copying from one folder to the other. Source Settings are applied at the end of a compare operation, so you need to re-compare the two root folders to apply any new settings.
The "allow for time difference" setting, allows you to set a time difference leniency for considering two files to have equal dates (timestamps).
This is especially important when comparing files between older operating systems like windows 95/98 and newer operating systems like windows 2000/XP. Windows 95 and 98 store file stamps differently to the newer operating systems, and in some cases even files with the same timestamp will show a 2 second time difference when compared between different operating systems. For this reason the default time difference is set to 2 seconds.
You will need to re-compare the two root folders to apply any new time difference allowance settings.
Filter Settings
The Filters page contains four sub-pages, with self-explanatory headings:
- "Summary" shows a summary of all three filter settings.
- "Load Filter" allows you to set the Load Filter settings.
- "Archive Folder Filter" - the Archive Folder filter settings and
- "View Filter" - the View filter settings.
The "View Filter" button on the main toolbar, also allows you to set or change the View Filter settings.
Compression
The compression settings allow you to protect the contents of zip files with a password. The way zip passwords work, is that any file that was added with a password, can only be extracted with that same password.
So it's important to realise you cannot simply specify a password to protect the contents of a zip file. You need to specify the password before adding the files you want to protect!
If a zip file has already been protected with a password, then you must enter that password in the relevant edit boxes, to allow files to be extracted from the archive.
NOTE:
This tab allows you to set and save password settings for Folder 1, Folder 2 and the other location specified in the Sync Dialog. The Copy Form has a button "other location settings" which allows you to set a password for this other location, but note that these settings are not saved into the project or between sessions.
Network
The network settings allow you to specify username and password settings where required to access folders on a network share. The corresponding main folder must include the machine name and share name in the form "\\MachineName\ShareName". (When a folder from the local computer is shared over the network, a ShareName is specified).
Additionally the "test connection" and "disconnect" buttons allow you to test whether you have entered the required information correctly or not. If the entered information is incorrect, the displayed error message should tell you why the connection failed.
NOTE:
This tab allows you to set network settings for Folder 1, Folder 2 and the other location specified in the Sync Dialog. The Copy Form has a button "other location settings" which allows you to set a network username and password for this other location, but note that these settings are not saved into the project or between sessions.
