Operate Features
Select Folders Dialog

(Left half of the Select Folders Dialog, showing options for Folder 1)
The Select Folders Dialog allows you to select the two main folders to use in a folder comparison.
The radio-button option group at the top of the dialog, allows you to select whether you want to choose a plain folder, archive file or folderprint.
If the archive option is selected, then a list of archive files for the currently selected folder will be shown in a file list box below the directory tree. Similarly, if the folderprint option is selected, a list of folderprint files will be shown in the file list box.
The multi-folder select option, if checked, will enable checkboxes for the folders in the directory tree, and allow you to select a group of folders to make up the single root folder. Put in a different way, the multi-folder option allows you to quickly exclude specific folders from the root folder. See the Multi-Folder Select Auto Filter topic for more details.
In some cases when using the multi-folder select option, you will not want to include the files from the root directory itself. In this case, uncheck the "Include root files" option.
Copy Dialog
Whenever you bring up the copy or delete dialogs, the dialog is "set" according to the current tab, i.e:
- The button corresponding to the current tab will be selected,
- files selected from the current tab, will constitute the list of files to copy, and the "files to copy" option group will be set to "selected"
- or if using checkboxes, then all checked files will constitute the list of files to copy, and the "files to copy" option group will be set to "checked".
Choosing the "All" option from the "files to copy" option group means that all files from the currently active tab will be used in the copy operation.
The source and destination labels indicate "from where" and "to where" the files will be copied respectively.
- If files are copied from the Folder 1 Only tab, then the destination will be Folder 2 Only.
- If files are copied from the Folder 2 Only tab, then the destination will be Folder 1.
- If files are copied from the Same tab, then the source and destination is determined by the "Same source" settings, from the Project Settings->Compare page.
- If files are copied from the Different tab, then the source for each file is indicated in the "Src" column of the file display, and the destination is obviously the other folder.
The above logic is applied when copying files from the Overview tab.
The row of buttons at the top of the dialog (labelled according to the different tab pages) can be used to switch to the indicated tab page.
Delete Dialog
Whenever you bring up the copy or delete dialogs, the dialog is "set" according to the current tab, i.e:
- The button corresponding to the current tab will be selected,
- files selected from the current tab, will constitute the list of files to delete, and the "files to delete" option group will be set to "selected"
- or if using checkboxes, then all checked files will constitute the list of files to delete, and the "files to delete" option group will be set to "checked".
Choosing the "All" option from the "files to delete" option group means that all files from the currently active tab will be used in the delete operation.
When deleting files from either the Folder 1 Only or Folder 2 Only tabs, there is no ambiguity about which files to delete. However, when deleting files from the Overview, Same or Different tabs, you need to indicate (by checking the relevant checkboxes) from which folder you want to delete the files - i.e. from Folder 1, from Folder 2 or from both.
NOTE: When deleting files from the Overview tab, the "delete from" checkboxes apply even to Folder 1 Only and Folder 2 Only files! So for example, if you have only selected a group of Folder 1 Only files, and only have the "Folder 2" checkbox checked, (i.e. only delete from Folder 2), then NO files will be deleted.
The "use recycle bin if possible" option, indicates whether to send deleted files to the recycle bin, or delete them permanently right away. "If possible" means that in some cases the operating system does not send deleted files to the recycle bin, for example when deleting files from a removable disk (CD, DVD or floppy).
