Different parts of the main window:

1. The Main Menu

A menu providing access to the different possible functions available in Compare Advance.

2. The Tool Bar

The Tool Bar contains buttons that provide quick access to commonly used functions. Each button has a hint (text that becomes visible when you move the mouse over it), that indicates what function the button performs.

3. Select Folder pane

Allows you to enter the path to valid folders, archive or folderprint files. The select folders button, will bring up the Select Folders Dialog.

When folders are being excluding with the Multi-Folder Select Auto-Filter, the text box background turn blue.

4. Main Controls pane

Contains buttons to:

  • Compare: the two folders selected in the Select Folder pane
  • Stop: A comparison in progress.

The Copy, Delete and Sync buttons, will bring up the Copy, Delete and Sync Dialogs respectively.

5. The Folder and Comparison Statistics pane

Shows folder statistics after each comparison, showing basic information for each folder (file count, folder count and total size) as well statistics for the different compare result types. Will also show archive folder statistics when Archive Folders are being excluded. See the Archive Folder topics for more information.

Additionally, this folder information is updated after every copy or delete operation.

The associated pop-up menu (right click), allows you to choose which columns to display.

6. The File Display pane

Contains an Overview tab which contains files from all four compare result types (Folder 1 Only, Folder 2 Only, Same and Different files), and then four tabs each containing files from a different result type group.

File Display Tabs

There are five tabs in the File Display pane.

The Overview tab contains files from all four compare result types (Folder 1 Only, Folder 2 Only, Same and Different files), and the four other tabs each contain files from a different result type group.

The three "change view" buttons on the tool bar (or under the "view" section of the main menu) allow you to change the view of the current tab.

Change to List view, Tree view and Explorer view buttons on the Tool Bar

(Change to List view, Tree view and Explorer view buttons on the Tool Bar)

The List view, makes it especially easy to see what files are in the current tab. Using this view may also be more convenient when you want to sort files by size or date, as the Tree view limits the sorting to be per folder.

The Explorer view, makes it very easy to get an overall view of what changes are present between the two root folders. In the Overview tab select the Explorer view. Use the "Expand All" button, to expand nodes in the tree part of the explorer view. The folder color codes will easily let you know what kind of result type files are in each folder. The Explorer view also makes it easy to navigate from one folder to another.

The Tree view, is kind of a mix between the above two views, allowing you to view files and folders at the same time, which makes it easier to see the files in their overall folder context.
