Archive Folder Statistics
If you have checked the "Exclude archive folders" option for a root folder (in the Select Folder dialog) then after you compare the two root folders you will see Archive Folder statistics in the Folder Statistics pane.
Here is a statistic report for a folder comparison, first not excluding Archive Folders, and then excluding Archive Folders:

(Without excluding Archive Folders)

(Using "Exclude archive folders")
If you look at the information under the section "Folder 1 archive folders", you will see a line showing Contents information. This tells you how many files and their size are contained in all Archive Folders. The Included information tells you how many files are different to the original archive files, and have therefore been included in the file list.
In this example, you can see that 5,875 files (7,099 - 1,224) have been excluded from the file list for Folder 1, saving a total of approximately 190 MB! (238 - 50).
Notice also that the total number of files (and disk space) listed in the other sections (e.g. Basic folder contents, One folder only), only includes those Archive Folder files that were included in the file list - in other words: it does not include those Archive Folder files that have been excluded from the file list.
When excluding Archive Folders, in order to work out the total number of files for Folder 1, you need to add to the total shown (2,387) the total number of Archive Folder files that were excluded i.e. 5,875.
2,387 + 5,875 = 8,262
which you can see from the diagram on the left (which doesn't use Archive Folders) is the total number of files in Folder 1.
If you're finding the above explanation difficult to understand, don't worry. It's a new idea, so give it some time to sink in. Experiment a bit by yourself. Read over the explanation again, and very soon you'll know exactly when this facility will be of great use to you. |
