Ping Check

General information

A ping is a very simple way to check if a computer and the network between the computer and the Network Eagle machine is functional. It sends an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo packet to the computer and listens for an echo reply packet. It waits for up to timeout seconds for each packet sent.

Note: On Windows NT/Windows 2000, the ping support requires administrator privileges. Those who uses ping checks in the Network Eagle application must have administrator privileges on the computer, otherwise it results in a failure with the Access Denied error code.

Status Conditions

• Successful - The ping check is considered successful if an ICMP Echo Reply is received before the specified timeout expires.
• Failed - The ping check is considered failed if an ICMP Echo Reply is NOT received before the specified timeout expires or an ICMP message different from an ICMP Echo Reply is received as a reply.
