File Menu

New
Opens a blank new filter window. New filters are created using the normal template, normal.fll, found in TextPipe's installation folder.

Open
Opens a saved filter list file.

To open a sample filter:

  • Click on Open in the File menu
  • TextPipe displays the filter list files in the TextPipe folder, usually c:\Program Files\TextPipe. Navigate to the TextPipe folder if the folder displayed is not the TextPipe folder
  • Select a filter list file (.fll file) to open, or navigate into one of the subject area subfolders such as coding, conversions, email, etext, fun, html or sysadmin and select a filter list file to open
  • Click the Ok button
  • TextPipe will open and display the selected filter list file.

Open in same window
Opens a filter in the same edit window, without modifying the file list. This can be used if you load a file list first either by drag and drop or from the Window Explorer context menu, and then need to change the filter without modifying the files.

Search
Opens a Windows Explorer search dialog box in TextPipe's installation folder. This can be used to quickly search for filters.

Insert
Inserts a saved filter list at the current cursor position.

Sometimes you need to incorporate the filters that you have saved in a filter list file. To copy them in to the current filter:

  • Position the cursor on top of the filter where you want the inserted filter list to appear. The inserted filter list will appear ABOVE the currently selected filter
  • Click Insert in the File menu
  • TextPipe displays the filter list files in the TextPipe folder, usually c:\Program Files\TextPipe. Navigate to the TextPipe folder if the folder displayed is not the TextPipe folder
  • Select a filter list file (.fll file) to insert, or navigate into one of the subject area subfolders such as coding, conversions, email, etext, fun, html or sysadmin and select a filter list file to insert
  • Click the Ok button
  • TextPipe will insert the new filter list above the currently selected filter.

Save
Saves the current filter list. If no name has been given to it, a Save As is performed.

Save as
Saves the current filter list with a new name.

Close
Closes the current filter window (prompting to save if any changes have been made).

Close all
Closes all window (prompting to save if any changes have been made).

Link to filter (Pro version only)
Incorporates the filters found in an external filter file at run time. This means than any changes that have been made to the linked filter list will be reflected in any filter list that links to it.

To link to a filter list:

  • Position the cursor on top of the filter where you want the linked filter list to appear. The linked filter list will appear BELOW the currently selected filter
  • Click Link to filter in the All Available Filters view of the Filters to Apply tab (Pro version only)
  • TextPipe displays the filter list files in the TextPipe folder, usually C:\Program Files\TextPipe. Navigate to the TextPipe folder if the folder displayed is not the TextPipe folder
  • Select a filter list file (.fll file) to link to, or navigate into one of the subject area subfolders such as coding, conversions, email, etext, fun, html or sysadmin and select a filter list file to link
  • Click the Ok button
  • TextPipe will insert a new link filter BELOW the currently selected filter.

Notes: When you link to a filter file, its Input and Output Filters are ignored, and all its Files to Process are ignored. Instead, the Input and Output filters are overridden by the Input and Output Filters of the filter list linking to it.

If the linked filter list performs special output functions in the Output Filter, such as merging the result to a new file, then when it is linked this function will no longer work (because the Output Filter is ignored). You cannot use a linked filter to re-process the original files in their unmodified state - whatever the linked filter does (including merging files together) is passed on to the next filter. The best way to achieve this is to run two separate filters consecutively from a batch file.

Export

Export filter to clipboard (Pro version only)
Uses the same output format as printing the filter list, but sends it to the clipboard so that it can be pasted into other programs. This feature is a very handy way of maintaining text-based revision control of your filters. Using a text-based diff program you can compare two filters easily after exporting each to the clipboard.

Export command line (Pro version only)
Generates command line parameters corresponding to the current filter list, and allows them to be saved to a batch file (.BAT). Note that not all filters are supported via the command line. This can be handy when editing complex filters externally to TextPipe. Note that the hierarchical structure of the filter list is NOT maintained.

Export to VBScript (Pro version only)
Generates VBScript code corresponding to the entire current filter list, and allows it to be saved to a VBScript file (.VBS). ALL filters are supported, and the hierarchical structure of the filter list IS maintained. This can be very handy when editing complex filters externally to TextPipe, and for creating code to inserting into Web pages, ASP scripts or other scripting application.

Export to JScript (Pro version only)
Generates JScript code corresponding to the entire current filter list, and allows it to be saved to a JScript file (.JS). ALL filters are supported, and the hierarchical structure of the filter list IS maintained. This can be very handy when editing complex filters externally to TextPipe, and for creating code to inserting into Web pages, ASP scripts or other scripting application.

Export to web page (Pro version only)
Generates a sample web page with both VBScript and JScript code corresponding to the entire current filter list, and allows it to be saved to a web page (.HTM). Sample edit boxes are also provided for testing the filter on text. This can be very handy as a template to create your own TextPipe web-based front-end - making it easier for non-technical users.

Print
Prints the current filter list. The output shows the names of the filters and the option settings, and the file list.

Printer setup
Allows the page orientation etc to be configured for the printer.

Recent files
Recent files is a submenu that shows a list of previously opened filter files, if any. A previous filter file can be opened quickly by just clicking on it in the menu. The maximum number of entries shown can be controlled through the preferences dialog.

Exit
Leaves TextPipe. You will be prompted to save the current filter list if you have modified it. Clicking [Yes] saves the filter and exits, clicking [No] does not save the filter and still exits, and clicking on [Cancel] does not exit.
